i mean if i leave the tank barebottom it isnt going to stress them out is it? ive read of little stressing things that are carried out long term arent good for rays. i would do sand to where it would be manageable, i removed most of the gravel from my tank it was a real pain to clean, and 200 pounds of sand would be a pain to clean, im talkin real thin layer. but theyd still go up on the side of the tank even with sand? i just dont want to stress them out. the amount of sand im talking about they wouldnt be able to fully bury in it, unless they moved all the sand to a certain part.
i put about 1 cm fine sand in my tank.. so far so good. they will stir the sand evertime they hide/unhide..so quite easy to clean.. i will vaccume the surface everytime do WC..

every ray i have ever kept has been on bare bottom.... most rays have been fresh imports and ive never had one problem.... its all preference i prefer barebottom... i can actually see if and how much my rays are eating...

ok. i was talking to someone i know and they said i should have three silver arowana and 3 motoro's because of their size and the tank size?

ill prolly do the thin layer of sand

or a silver and a black arowana with the 4 rays. but arent the black really expensive and hard to find?

what im getting at is will my setup of 3 silvers and 4 motoro go in 720g? i could possibly sneak by with getting a tank of 120"x 48"x36", but if i couldnt would it work?

if i did get the 120" tank, itd be 120" by 48" by 36" with 3 silver arowana, 4 motoro ray still.

maybe do three motoro and one leopoldi?

and if i wanted to add say like 2 smaller rays like retics if ive been successful with the motoro's, is that possible? rays dont eat each other do they?

will be reading up on that book once i get it.

sorry theres just so many new factors to add into the whole setup. ok so my setup is looking like this....

3 silver arowana
4 motoro ray (maybe 3 and one leo, depending on price of leo's at that point)
2 itaituba

900 gallons 10x4x3 feet.

about 1 cm of sand.

bruce, im just trying to gather as much information i can, so im well prepared and informed.

im still waiting for that book in the mail, anytime now.
