I have a 55 gallon aquarium with a black ghost knife, 7 glass catfish, 12 ghost shrimp and a amazon sword plant.
It has brown gravel and I am planning to buy a large piece of driftwood and another amazon sword plant soon.
I also have some pvc pipes for the ghost knife.

So would the eel be agressive towards any of my fish(I dont care if it eats the shrimp) or uproot/eat plants? Also would it hurt itself on the gravel or pipes?

55 isn't big enough for either of those species for life (actually, same for the BGK). Are you planning on upgrading?
I kept a fire eel with my BGK and they were buddies.
If you want a smaller eel, try something like a peacock eel.

I agree

You will be OK in a 55 with the knife and the fire/tire-track eel the ghost will get ate and fast . 2 fish in a 55 eel and a knife ? You better throw a 3,erd in there < Like a Clown Knife > Butt they will get big and fast do not be cruel . A 90 with the foot print of 48L 18D 26T would suit for life , If I had A 90 I would toss a couple more MONSTER-FISH In there Like "4"
Black ghost knife grow slow to medium

Im upgrading to a 90 in the summer

Id say that's a bare minimum for a BGK, but a fire eel or tire track should be in a 6 foot tank, preferably a 180. There are a few other species of eels that don't get very big but aren't often seen in the trade--peacock eel is gonna be your best bet.

Agree : Would be most suitable the eel's get BIG AND FAT .

other then the shrimp becomeing a snack, and either will outgrow the tank. the mix should be okay. ime tire tracks can be more aggressive and become fisheaters fairly readily. fire eels tend to be gentle giants. atm my fire eels live in a 75 at approx 2yrs old and have outgrown it. there are members here that have fish well into the 3' mark.. yes 36"+ of both of these species. So I would not suggest either to be a good starter spiney eel. or to aquire either species without an understanding you will have what is akin to a large cat-fish in demands and needs. neither species is also readily accepting of pelleted foods, so frozen/live diets are almost a must for these fish. ATM I own 6 spiney eels and not a single one take pellets. a pellet eating one is from what I've experainced and seen as others experiances are rare.

So take all of this into consideration before buying either of these species.
