It's not a true Anguilliform, but rather a swamp eel. It's the obscure swamp eel - Ophisternon aenigmaticum. From what some people have told, they're quite rare in Aquarium stores in the US. Since I'm not from the US and these swamp eels are VERY common where I live, I was wondering if anyone would buy one. The attachment will show a young female swamp eel I caught recently.

Is it coldwater? Am down either way if it can go in a 55g awesome ! Or if he's coldwater il put him in my 1,000(cw)

It can survive in any type of water (except for salty). When it comes to temperature, it can survive in any. It can survive without water too. I've found these buggers in dry river beds 4 months after the rivers had dried up. Imagine that. I've found them in moist rotting leaves on the river bank. They're the ultimate survivors. Nothing, not even temperature can stop them. As for tank size. Yep a 55 g is okay.

Its is monopterus albus and they get quite large. Like, 3 feet large and very thick. A 55 gallon is too small. Think 125 minimum. It is also banned in many states as it is an invasive species.

No! It's actually the obscure swamp eel - Ophisternon aenigmaticum! Not the Asian swamp eel - Monopterus Albus! It's smaller than the Asian swamp eel, and is actually native to the New world where as the Asian swamp eel is obviously native to Asia.

Here's monopterus albus:

Yes, they look similar, but they are TWO DIFFERENT species!
