Probably american (my 4"ers and 8"er get along with my 8" bluegill) but i'm not sure about cichlids though. behavior is similar to sunfish so I'd imagine so.

yeah it will be fine ive kept them with my africans and they seem to do fine. at first they thought they was a worm but then they just left him alone. but then my rtc ate them :/

I had my small bichirs with my Africans till they got big enough for the 150g with my south Americans. They are all doing great. But then again I think I got lucky with my fish selection everyones is pretty peaceful. But as long as they aren't small enough to be eaten they are pretty hardy fish.
