Would convicts school

Hey everyone.

I'm curious if a handful of convicts would school if they were placed in my 180g. Footprint is 6' x 2' x 2'.

My thought is that they won't. That they will just pair off and just become territorial.

Any thoughts on this?

They may school if they are small, like under an inch, but they will just pair off as they grow. I don't think they would school even if you would do all females, they would probably just setup territories and hide.

That sounds like an excellent idea. I'll be able to put the parents in when they get a little larger. Then when their babies grow out some more and I can sex them I will throw in a few females. That would be one interesting school!

Wow... I totally read that message wrong earlier. I guess I shouldn't be on here while I'm rushing around at work. Sorry!

Thank you for the inputs. Yeah I thought they wouldn't school a whole lot if any due to how territorial the species is. If anything they would just add activity to the tank hopefully without stressing the others out too much.@

They wont school. I had a large group of fire mouths and they schooled until they hit 1" now they have all claimed there own territory. Convicts would be the same.
 
Durn. I was hoping for a school. That would be interesting if it could happen. Oh well.

Are you set on Convicts? Other ciclids would school some. I have Geos that regularly swim together.

I already have a pair in a growout tank. Well they ended up laying eggs successfully. This was their first attempt too. I am keeping the parents and was curious to see the options of raising up and keeping some of their young also.
