I know that dats will eat whatever can fit in their mouth, but I know there are some species they'll leave alone...

I have a happy group of 5 clown loaches in a tank and I'm considering moving them. I'd rather put them in the tank with the dats, as at least they're from the same region, than in the tank with the africans, which has way higher pH/hardness (and also a parasite issue right now). But they're kind of small, just 2.5" or so. The two larger dats could take care of that no problem if they wanted to.

Anyone keep loaches with dats? Or would that just be asking for trouble?

mine never did.... and some were small enough to be eaten.....

I know they eat tiger barb, I didn't expect they are smart enough to distinguish a tiger barb and a small datnoid :P
Heh, maybe they just got sick of the annoying tiger barbs and put an end to it. I know the three barbs I have in a different tank would annoy my dats to no end. I'd actually also like to get them out of that tank too, but am hoping to just give them away.

none of my dats have even shown interest in feeders...

I kept a larger NTT with small clowns, and had no problem. I eventually moved them because I couldn't stop thinking that eventually they would disappear.

I keep a large dats with my cl ranging 8'' to 3'' my wide bar 13'' a real pig i have never had a issue .My largest cl chases my wide bar and my 25'' black aro ,i did have one mysterious death of a 3'' cl it looked like someone smashed him.

My clown loaches chase my little dat from time to time. They seem to have confidence in numbers! They both grow slow and as long as you buy 3-4'' clowns and not those little 1inchers that are in the stores now. I don't think it would be interested.
