Would dats eat clown loaches?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great,,, i checked out this thread, and put a 10cm cl into my dat tank (we only get indos here) they are about 25cm, the cl is well dat food. there goes $30....:(:(

I have 10 1" loaches and 6 5-6" ngt and it dat. . And I am suprise they have not ate them... They get along just fine..... (got lucky)

I had a 9 inch indo in with some 2.5 to 3 inch Clown loaches. The indo was never interested in them. I guess it would depend on what you feed your dat. If you feed live, he'll probably go after them. hope that helps.

I always thought loaches had these razor sharp spikes they stick out when stressed that prevents them from being eaten. the same reason why many people say dont use ur hands when ur trying to remove them from your tank or untangling them from your fish net.

Yes it's true. It cut my thumb when I took it out from the net.

Defense Mechanism
It has been common knowledge among those who have been deeply immersed in the loach subject that the members of the popular botiine group sport bifid spines found under each eye. These are used by the loaches as a means of defending themselves from possible provocations and attacks. Many a predator have been choked to death as they attempt to swallow the loaches whole while their bifid spines remain stuck outside their ‘sheaths’. Though those are often used as a means to defend against predators and attackers, they are also used by loaches in their skirmishes as they fight for dominance or settle territorial disputes.

The spines also tend to tangle the loaches to the nets so to avoid damage, the net must be placed in the water and let the fish go off by itself but if drastic measures must be taken however, the net will have to be cut away to avoid further damage.

If you keep your Dat well fed and the loaches have hiding spots it will help. Since its normal for any fish to eat a smaller fish, its a good chance it will happen. Fish are unpredictable. And Lupin is right, it can be a problem if your fish eats one. When fish try to eat catfish and plecos even, they get hurt or even die from the barbs/spiky fins etc.
