Would like crystal clear fresh water, PLEASE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok thanks for your help.
In my Eheim 2080 I have only siporax cylinder for biological filtration + 2 pads ( the blue and the white)

And what's about Acurel F ? Is that working ?

Is it dangerous for my aorwana ?
Thanks guys !

As long as your ammonia and nitrites are zero and you have very little (>30ppm on a bad day) Nitrates your aro should be OK... Definitely not a best case scenario though.

Murky water can be caused by several things, algae will cause this as well and I don't think it is really harmfull for your fish, lots yes, but not this little bit...

Hello

I have aquarium since 15.
Always the same thing. My fresh water is not crystal.
At pet shop, the water is very very clear. What is the secret.

I have now a 1200 Litres Aquarium with an EHEIM 2080.
Two neons of 36 each and T°C is 25.5.
I change 20% each week.
I do not overfeed my fish

I have only one big fish inside : An Arowana (juvenile) VFSR + 4 little corydoras.
No plants inside and no sand at the bottom.

So MFKs, what to do to have a crystal clear water ?
Please help me.

Eheim 2080 is not enough filtration for a 1200 litre tank. I know it says it can flow 1700 lph and for aquariums up to 1200 litres. This is misleading. In reality the flow is around 1200 litres an hour when full of media, meaning you would require 3 of these filters to sufficiently filter your tank. What you want to try and aim for in your system is a minimum of around 3 times turnover of tank volume with good mechanical and biological filtration.

Nothing wrong with your water change volume of 20% is nice and stable for what you have described.
Your issue is you simply don't have the turnover to do proper mechanical filtration.
I suggest save the expense of buying another two of these expensive overated filters, and add 1 x fx5 (2/3 cost of 2080 with twice the flow) to your current filtration which will do about 2400 litres an hour with media or a wet/dry sump with a return pump around 3500 lph. Either of these combos combined with your 2080, will net you a turnover of 3 times your tank volume. Once you fix this up, you will see better water quality. Don't forget to fill the filters with good bio media.;)

Overfiltration is the key to Crystal clear water, try adding a Aquaclear 110. I hear it does wonders for mechanical filtration.

ORRRRRRRRRRRR if you have the money go for a FX5 i love mine!

Since no one asked, when you test your water, what are the results?
Ammonia?
Nitrite?
If you show 0 for both, you have enough bio media now.
You can add more, but it will have no effect on getting your water clear.
Not sure how someone could recommend adding bio media without any basic information.
Would guess you need more mechanical cleaning as was already mentioned.
The suggestion of a Magnum HOT 250 is a good one.
The micron rated cartridge would probably clear your tank in 1-2 days, for a whole lot less money than a FX5 or diatom filter. Much easier to clean as well. With an extra cartridge, you could have the filter running continuously. One cartridge soaking in beach and water for 12-18 hours, then left to air for a few days. If the bleach makes you nervous, a soak in a dechlorinator could ease your fears.
Getting more turnover would not hurt, but without media that can trap all the really small particulate, all you would be doing is moving dirty water around.

ok thanks a lot Rhodes96 and all MFKs.
What is for you a good bio media ?

What your using now is fine. Try to add more to your next filtration option without compromising your mechanical filtration.

Sounds like you have a nice setup coming along.

Water parameters check is a good idea.
Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Ph ?
How long have you been running the tank for ?
