Would like few opinions from fellow ATF enthusiasts.

How bout Gar? Think hey have strong enough armor to withstand attempted gashings?

Could work. My Cuban has taken fair bit of beatings thru the years. I can see scratches across its body but never ever seen any missing scales - it is that tough.

The tail and eyes might be vulnerable though - as ATFs are known to take out eye balls.

Another risk is whether the gars will retaliate or not. They can give as well as receive. LOL!

It might take some effort but you can try to get some docile gars from trusted hobbyists who comm and know their behavior.

The ganoid scales of a gar would definitely be ideal to withstand the thrashings that an ATF can dish out, but the primary problem is that gars are adapted to pretty much the exact opposite type of water conditions as ATF. I'm not sure if a gar would thrive in an ATF-style tank or not. Are you still running lots of current? I've been away for a while. :/

That's what I was thinking...

Not running near the current I was. It made my fish flighty. Everything working well stuff was fine, but when a korilia would stop, or power went out everything freaked bad. Since I have went back to typical ray tank turnovers and the ATF have calmed, they can be in smaller tanks without the current without freaking out. My largest Tatf is crammed in a 180 and seems fine with it. I have a 3600 gph return pump on that 180.

Hell, could certainly be worth a try. Gars with baby ATF is a definite no-no, but I see no reason to expect that adult FL gar wouldn't be perfect to go with a big tanzy.
