Would like some advice on tanksize......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With a drip system water quality isn't going to be an issue.

Thank you all for the replies.

May have to shut the pond down so I need to thin out stock to what I can keep in tanks...... Have 9 rays in the pond now, and have 10 x 3 worth of tank. Looks like I'll have to sell off at least 3. :(

OR find a house I can set my big tank up in..... Which I'm sure the Characins would really appreciate.

I'd say 3-4 rays in the 6'x3' tank. I had the marble pair and 2 pups in mine (same size) for awhile. The drip system will really help.
Hope you don't have to though.

al i dont have time right now but i will send you a pm tomarrow with an idea i have that might help you out for a bit.

Well right now I'm the king of overcrowding. I have 8 adult rays in an 8' x 30" x 36" and drip system with 5 females being pregnant and no water issues. I also built a bioreactor like vamptrev's that I feel also made this possible.

A trio of 2F, 1M or even 3F, would work fine in that foot print for a long time with great filtration. Would also depend on the rays tempermant. I wouldnlt try 2M,1F however.

I have 5 rays ranging from 8-11" in my tank with a foot print of 27" X 72". I don't have a drip yet but I am running a 80 gallon sump with no issues. So what you are wanting to do will work just fine long term. I on the other hand will be going bigger soon with not much choice.

even withe good filtration and drip i don't like overcrowding my ray they tend to push each other around and the weakest are constantly stressed. sorry you may down size but i can understand this is not a cheap hobby. also don't like keeping male with female all the time. 3 max good luck

3 rays. putting them in an 8x4 would be great, as u could add a few more.

Putting them in my 10x4 would be even better. :) But it doesn't fit in this place. :( This is just a temporary solution to a current problem.
