Wow.. If they are that aggressive, how do i know the male and female wont kill each other? I did some googling on red terrors and some say to make sure i have a divider between them... Is this true or what?

Yes, as stated in my earlier post in this very thread, tank dividers are suggested, if not several tanks to use for the separation of individuals and fry.

We keep fish in a glass box. There is no room for a female to get away from an aggressive male anxious to spawn. When keeping and breeding these large fish, it's necessary to intervene when things get intense. Tank dividers are nice because you can cut a hole big enough for the female to move back and forth but too small to allow the male to get to the female's side should she retreat.

You HAVE to have a sturdy divider though, as 18" of RT is a lot of brute force. Have heard many horror stories of when the male RT breaks through and just annialates the female. Males are notorious for being female killers. It can be done, but dividers, larger tanks, and plenty of patience are quite nesseccary. A watchful eye is definately a must.

Hmm, Looks like I have to make a diy divider because the ones they sell in the store are pretty crappy. They are just pieces of plastic with holes in them.

Wow.. KIller fish these guys are from the way you guys describe them.:nilly:

What if i got a bigger female and smaller male? Would that cause imbalance to breed? Or would the male still kill the female?

Might end up with the female killin the male in that instance.

We're talking long term here. It is almost a given that your male RT will be larger than your female. Just takes time. They will be the same size for a while if you buy them as juvies, but you will see the males putting on size quicker than the females. Buying a larger female will only provide you with a certain amount of time, and then of course the male will eventually outgrow her. Just plan on having a large aggressive male, and a fragile female, then you will be prepared. :D

Sure grab some, esp if you dont like your other fish. I recently got a 4'' festae and put it in a 100g with a 8'' jag and not 2 minutes after intro, the little bada$$ was locked up with the jag in combat. It then made life in the tank a living hell for the rest of the occupants.

awesome fice really nasty..
