Would love some feedback on my Sunnie Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks really nice. I agree that a little bigger tank might be in order in the future, so keep an eye on it, but otherwise I really like it

Beautiful fish. A 125 would be better. Those guys can be territorial. They would LOVE a 180.
Out of curiosity, why did you start a thread to bump a thread started today with a post in it i minute before this thread was started?

I meant to post it in this section in the first place, as the media lounge doesn't get much traffic. I figure instead of doing a whole new thread, I would just link it.

Right now there is very little aggression in the tank, and WC sunnies in MA don't get anywhere near their max size. I would be shocked if any got over 7". LT plan is a much larger tank in the future. But I am comfortable now. Also zimmerman recomends overstocking to spread aggression and it has worked out well so far

Hahaha, just bustin your balls about the thread. Remember, up here in New England, native fish have only a few months a year in warm water. In captivity, (unless you have a chiller), they are going to be in at least 70* water year round. This means they are going to have a faster metabolism, more appetite, higher aggression, and faster growth rate. They will also produce more waste, so keep an eye on nitrates. I think 7 inches will be a very realistic size.

I try to keep the temps below 70 by changing with cold water a couple times a week (tank is also in the basement that stays at 65 year round). Even with the heat we have been having, I haven't broken 70 yet this summer, but you are right, they may get a bit bigger in the tank than they would in the wild. I still don't see them coming anywhere near the 10" they can theoretically get to. I also collected them as larger fish, so a good deal of ther growing has already happened, though I know they will continue to grow their whole lives.

I do want a bigger tank because I want to add some Perch and a Bullhead, so maybe having them grow too big will be a good excuse to tell the wife we need to upgrade.
