Would rays let eartheaters spawn?

Hey all,

I'm new to rays, and am just starting to considering getting into them since I'm setting up a 400g tank. I am thrilled to discover that they work well with eartheaters, but haven't seen any info about whether the geos spawn with rays around.

Seems like it'd be pretty easy for a ray to swoop in and suck up all the eggs in a quick gulp.

No big deal either way... if the geos can't breed it's not a dealbreaker. But I was just curious to know if anyone has had spawns in tanks that also had rays.
 
Can I get the species name (or genus name, if "eartheater" constitutes more than one species) of the fish that you are talking about?

Sorry, just random curiosity.
 
Mine did and my rays ate them all. So maybe if they laid them on a piece of wood somewhere. Mine laid their eggs right on the glass on the bottom.
 
Yes, I meant geophagus, as well as satanoperca. Would probably have some severums in there as well.

I plan to have sand and rockpiles and driftwood so there will be ample spawning sites. In the tank they're in now they always spawn on the round rocks. So it's good to know that they don't get scared off by rays. If they lay the eggs I can always yank them and their rock into a breeder tank too.

This idea just keeps getting better and better...

that is true, except mine did not poke at the eyes. They nipped at the disks and sometimes even took a bite off.

After I removed the geo's, the disks healed up though.

I was thinking the same thing. That is wouldn't be possible because of the territorial nature of breeding cichlids.
