would this light be enough for a 29gl

it would be fine. do you plan to use any actinics?? If not i suggest going with a JBJ 12K bulb. They have great color and will help the colors of coral and fish stand out more. Just a thought.

which one should i go for the 70 or 150 watt

IMO 70 would be fine, but 150 would work with better results. If this were my tank i would not be doing a Metal Halide. The risk that you might have too much light is there, which would cause corals to stay closed, or burn. Too much light is not a good thing and should be avoided. Another issue would be heat. Halides run very hot, you will lose a lot of water and you will have temp issues. I had a 150 on my 65gallon and it cause major heat issues, now i have a 120 with VHO's and i have no issue. IMO, best lighting on the market next to LED. On your size tank its hard because they dont make 30" long t5HO's which is what i would go for. The next best thing would be power compacts. There not my favorite light but they make 30 inch units and you have mostly enough power for softies and low-mid light LPS.

i decided against metal halide because of style and all. i am looking at anything from 20 inch up that i can hang. i am setting up a shelf to hang it from. i know if i have enough power i don't have to have a 30 inch light.

true, but i think i could figure it out. there are others i like. there is a quad t5ho i like. it's 150 and can be hung.
