I would maybe just get the Texas and oscar or the oscar and a larger eel species but not all three. Thats a lot of bioload in your tank unless you plan to upgrade....or kill/eat your fish.
But, based on 12 sq. inches of surface area per 1 inch of fish, a 75 gallon would be about 71% stocked when the fish are fully grown(results from a calculator tool for stocking densitity.)
I do realize that these are heavy bodied fish that make a lot of mess, so maybe I should use a different "rule" than the 1" per 12 sq inches.
My filtration for the tank is an XP 3 and some sort of HOB(thinking of going with an aquaclear 110, but I have 2 Penguin BIO-Wheel 200's right now, so I may just use them and save the cost of the aquaclear.)
With a large weekly water change, I think I should be OK with 3 large fish in a 75 gallon.
Of course, if it's just not feasable, then I think I will get the oscar and eel.
This tank is still in a planing stage, I'm waiting for the stand to come in, so if all goes well I'll be cycling by the end of this month.
I've never done a "big fish" tank before, so I've been researching the fish, and I get a lot of conflicting info from different sources. The eel and texas cichlid were on all the lists I've seen of fish that are compatible with oscars, and a web-site even listed a sample stocking list for a 40(!) gallon tank or bigger with an oscar and other fish of similar size. That's another reason I figured 3 large fish would be OK.
Thanks for helping me out with all my questions!
