I tried my new mag drive pump for the first time today... only to find it vibrated badly against the glass. If I were to wrap it and the plumbing in towels, would that stop the vibration? Would that be safe to do? or is there a better idea?
And for the same (relatively) 98w, you can move 3600gph. No, Mag drives are terribly inefficient. There are a TON of inefficient motors/designs out there that are constantly accepted because they are cheap. Spend a little more and you get a lot more.CClump;4897762; said:i dont think magdrives are all that ineffecient.
i use the 9.5 and itll do 600gph still at 7' of head. for 93watts and the amount of power to do that i thought was pretty reasonable.
granted 5' will be max for most and thats still 750gph for a normal 950gph at 0 head

If you have hard lines, PVC(etc.) directly coupled to the pump, it can add to noise.
I have always had hose between pump and intake/return lines to isolate the vibration.
Having the pump on some sponge, between pump body and glass will quiet it down allot.
