Sounds like what happened to Andy Dufresne.
 
In the broadest sense, the lfs is correct. But, so as not to anthropomorphize normal fish behavior, here is what is being induced by segregating the combatant to another tank: loss of territory.
A fish has no idea what human punishment is. When you remove an aggressive fish from its declared territory, you leave an open territory that will be quickly claimed by another fish. In the meantime, the fish in solitary confinement is establishing his new territory in the new tank. Later, when you put that fish back into his original tank, the territorial lines have to be reestablished. The same result can be accomplished by rearranging the tank decor. When you move all of the rockwork, driftwood, etc around, the fish have to establish new territorial boundaries.
 
hmm im getting anouther lima hope they dont fight to :(

i changed my tank around this morning so no one in my tank has a territory and i did a water change like 20%

hope it helps a lil they seem to be fine now

but if u think about it thats like saying u could keep a pirahna with goldfish and he wouldent eat them...

This thread is addressing territorial aggression and NOT predatory aggression. A P with a goldfish is a whole other subject.

i would go back to the lfs and make that employe stand in corner for being a terd and ask him if he understood his punishment.

i also heard if u buy kissing gouramis and if there not kissing u can yank them out of the tank and make out with them and they will start kissing.:hitting: :ROFL
