4 x 8 is an ideal foot print but try to go deeper than 14". Some rays like to swim the sides and an 8" ray would be 14" long. You run the risk of them jumping out if uncovered. I know people on here keep fronts with rays and no the motoro will not try and eat them at that size. I have a 6" pink tailed chalseus in with a 14 inch jaguar ray with no problems. The fish you have to worry about are the ones that lay on the bottom or come close to the bottom. Gars are great tank mates but some like to lay on the bottom where a ray can get on top of them. You would have to have a 24" ray to take out one of your fronts. Long term pH would be my only concern
