im not going to do this anytime soon, but down the road i was planning on getting some polypterus senegalus. Would i be able to keep 3 in a 30g? I remember reading something on here somewhere about being able to do that, but wanted to make sure.
any help would be appreciated

well if it wouldnt work well, then i'm just going to save up a little extra for a 55g.

Why not just save some money and get yourself a 120g or 180g. Some people only plan to keep a few bichirs, but once they started, the urges to get more is addicting. Trust me you will find out once you start keeping them.

Most people usually start from a senegalus then to albino sene or plamas polli. Then to ornates or delhezi and into endlicheri. And the addiction keeps on going an going till you almost complete the known species.:D

Have fun and happy bichir keeping!:D

thanks, but idk if im going to have enough spare cash to get anything bigger than a 55g anytime soon, unless......CRAIGSLIST!!!

1 could be kept in a 30gallon i wouldn't do more than that because of possible territorial issues.Where in the USA are you located?-Anne

thinking glasscages may be an option

I wouldn't. Maybe short bodies, but it would have to be a 30g with the right dimensions.

40g is the minimum for normal senegalus, especially if you want to keep more than one. Even a 40g is cramped.

the tank is a 30 long about 13" wide. it has pretty unusual dimensions. would this still work?

I'd say no, but only because I've seen what senegals look like when raised in a 3000L tank from juvis. You probably could keep one, just, but if you're interested in poly's save your cash for a 75g and get a few of them.
