Would this work?

I have the 40-Gallon Brackish tank with puffers, scats, a Mono Sebae, and a NN Gar. I have been able to put freshwater fish into the tank such as two Silver Hatchets and a Marbled Headstander. (I had Goldfish in it once) What I would like to do is put the E. humboldtii Knife into the tank, but my worry is, how will the puffers react? Would they bite his tail? Now, I'm sure no one here has ever done anything like this before, but if anyone could just say what they think of it that would be great. I am not worried about any other fish bothering him otherthan the Puffers (two Figure Eight, Avocado Puffer, three Green Spotted). Any ideas? :confused:
 
I'd highly advise against it.

To start with, E. humboldtii isn't a brackish water species, having (I'd imagine) little to no tolerance of marine salts in the water. I really doubt he'd survive long in such conditions.

I'm also concerned for the Avacado puffer, as this isn't a brackish species either. While he may not be dying, long term there may be some complications.

Rather keep your knifefish where it is and look into your puffer to see what environment would suit it best.

Good luck with your tank though, sounds like a cool setup.

I would suggest researching further into which species can be kept in brackish. And which species are strictly freshwater. Also you need to keep in mind of the adult size of these fish as well. Scats and Monos will not be comfortable in a 40g long term.

I have read that Avocado Puffers can live in Brackish. When I wen't and bought him he was with Green Spotted Puffers in a Brackish Tank. Thanks for the help.

The fish in the brackish tank (Once they get larger) will be moved into a larger tank.
 
avoid that s**t buddy, unless you want a dead knife. even keeping the F8's long term in your tank wont work. as they require 1.005 and GSP's, monos, and scats prefer 1.010 as juvenilles, and high end brackish/full marine as adults. my GSP was in marine at less than 2". he just wasnt happy in anything less :)

id keep the knife in a tank with other fish with similar requirements, elephantnose's, other knifes, catfish, pleco's, polypterus (rocking :headbang2)
silver dollars ect...
 
If you're thinking of moving them to marine, set up a new tank at the same specific gravity (SG) as the tank they're currently in, and then allow the tank to cycle.

Once the tank is ready for the puffers, move them across. Then, every week with water changes, increase the SG of your tank by 0.002. This slow change will ensure that neither your fish nor the bacteria in the system will die, and will keep your tank pretty healthy. After a few weeks, your tank should be marine. :)
