So i have been fighting evaporation in my recently built ray pond. I was thinking about adding a float valve and topping of with RO water to keep it at a proper level, theni realized i could skip the float valve and just run the RO straight to the pond and put a drain in my sump so the water would be consistently changing and it would keep itself full. This would eliminate do 2 things, eliminate water changes and keep the pond topped off.

Anyone else doing this?

Heres a pic of my newly contructed pond.

Heres one with my pair of motoros in it.

yup, that will work:)
I plan on doing the same thing (minus the RO part) on most of my tanks.

But if your not using RO how do you plan on treating your tap water? Im assuming you could just use a carbon or someother type of filter inline.

Actually you could eliminate one other thing. That pesky paycheck every month. R/O systems waste about 80% of total water. Geeze, I would think it would cost a fortune. If you have the funds for it, I would go for it but wow. My water bill is already at $250.00 a month and I dont have a water source constantly runing like that.

Wow, good point. Forgot about that aspect, guess im just gonna use tapwater with some inline filters.

water is still going to be evaporating so you should have a dehumidifier going. Otherwise, you will have some damp ceiling pannels (BAD!)

Was out my in my garage digging around getting ready for the big annual clean up when i realized i had a 4 x 5 peice of 3/16 glass leaning against the wall. It fit perfect on my pond, sure theres still 3 feet of exposed water but im thinking i could find one more small peice and then it will be completely covered and the evaporation issure will be taken care of almost completely.
