could i keep anything else with the bichir that would also get along with the gars, maybe like a black ghost knife or a tire track eel?
 
black ghost nife are very fragile fish so no. The eel can work but IMO they are a fish that should be kept as the main fish and in your tank he wont be
 
thanks for the info, but also curious about purchase sizes. planning for 2 florida gar, 1 ornate bichir and 1 tire track eel, what would be good sizes to get these fish at to ensure the coexist peacefully.
