You hve any issue with gt size not just aggression. So while one of each could work in a larger tank. The gt regardless will out grow this tank.

Wouldn't work gt would outgrow the 30 gallon easily. Both in the same tank would be bad. In my experience its been 50/50 with both in terms of aggression. Regardless gt will outgrow that tank

You obviously never met my Firemouth. He beat down every fish from a larger Gt, JD and put the Festae in my Avatar into a hospital tank for about 2 months. I couldnt get a full grown FM to cohabit ate with any other cichlids in a 60, 90 or my 300. And my GT was fierce........

Not saying it cant work, but I couldn't pull it off in a tank 10x what you're planning. My FM was the most troublesome cichlid Ive ever kept. beautiful fish once grown out, but a total ***hole. Each fish is different but mine was a punk.
 
A GT will grow to almost half your tanks length given good care..
