it brings up a lot of intersting scenarios.
on one hand pretty much all north american places have laws that protect workers in the event of them being asked to perform unsafe work.
ie you have the right to refuse unsafe work (as you did) which was the right thing to do. driving a car with two broken signal lights is VERY unsafe.
most laws say you cannot be punished or repremanded for this.
on the other hand, if you drove it anyway (if they told you they would fire you etc if you didn't) and were injured in an accident and the lack of signals was determined to be a factor, the company would easily be held liable. a lawyer would have no problem with that one..
you did the right thing though.
companies that have little regard for worker safety are scary and dangerous. sad in this day and age...
your boss should be made aware of his mistake and steps should be taken to ensure that no other staff member is put in this position..
