I had to do a paper on this when I was in college. They were all but completely removed from Yellowstone, and it threw the ecosystem out of wack. Now that they realize their mistake, they are trying to reintroduce wolves into the wild. I really hope it works out. Really is retarded though, some people would rather they go extinct than give them a chance to repopulate in the wild...:(

I personally LOVE wolves! It would be SO awesome being able to live so close to them! I would be in heaven!! Very very cool!!

I read an interesting article, where they were trying to re-instate a hunting season on the wolves as their population is at a maintainable size and they are killing livestock.

The problem with that is that when you have a hunting season the hunters don't want to hunt the weak and old, they want the wolves in their prime, which are the ones that are capable of catching wild game.

So, in essence instead of fixing the problem of wolves eating domestic animals they'd be causing more problems by reducing the vitality of the packs, forcing the wolves to feed on domestics.

Just my random post for the day.

I think we should just hunt the farmers. Quick to kill most of them are. They don't pay attention to the consequences. :(

Food chains are very complicated...mess one up....... :nilly:

The farmers have a valid point as well though. The domestic animals they raise are their livelihood. Do they not have any right to protect it?

They have every right to protect it. But it doesn't mean they have to kill the wolves. Its by killing them that we almost lost all of them. Wolves used to range across practically all of the US, now they are mainly in isolated pockets in a few states.

There are many solutions to the 'problem' for farmers to use. Relocation, fences, and managing the herds better are all options. Instead the farmers would rather kill. Thats the sucky thing about humans that I hate, we think we own the land.

now that would be a nice reason to take strolls around the house

Right now I live in the middle of the forest with black bears and Florida panthers. What's a few dogs?

I dont believe that wolves are responsible for many (if any) human attacks.

Pretty sure there has never been a documented attack of a healthy wolve attacking a human. So I'll back that one up.. :)

the wolves were here first, respect the fact that their willing to share their land with you without killing you.

Agree!@! I wouldn't mind them living near me, would I have to change the way I live(not let my dog free roam), etc? Yeah. But as said they have a right to be here as much as I do.
