Would you put water in this tank...crack.

Since it is going to have approx. six inches of water and the crack is about three inches high, there will be only .110 psi exerted on the crack. Basically you could say there isn't going to be any stress on it.

But still, just to make everyone happy you should fill it outside and let it sit for a month...during the middle of winter. The expanding ice will finish it off.

Or you could just put some silicone over the crack and forget that it ever happened.

I have a 55 with an 8 inch crack through the glass on the end piece, on the top corner. I siliconed it, and it hasn't leaked or anything. its been good for over 10 years.

That's my experience. I'm not giving any advice. do what you think is best.

When I first got the tank I was like...man I cant cut a hole in a brand new 75 for a filter. I was thinking I could set it up at work and use rubber made tubs and build a filter. Now I guess I wouldn't mind cutting a hole in this one.

I might fill it...but I would like to have my tank up and running in a month so I don't want to fill it and let it sit for that long. I might fill and see what it does but my fear isn't that it would leak or brake right there....but that it will brake or leak down the line when im not looking at it.

im paranoid enough to not use it-it turn it into a great turtle tank.

It will only leak but NEVER break so your paranoia is unjustifiable. If it leaks just add some silicone to it.

When I say brake I mean the crack run long and then split open and leak FAST.

I will put some water in it to the top and see what it does for a few days while I think about what im going to do.

I wouldnt trust it without attempting to 'fix' it/reinforce it

some people seem to be forgetting....6" of water isnt much but if youre gunna use it as a sump you have to be able to trust it to hold however much water will be in it during a power outage

if that thing filled up during a power outage....and broke/leaked you could have a real mess on your hands....not to mention the inhabitants of your 240

I can only assume you will have a fair amount invested in livestock in a 240....I'd be soooo pissed at myself if I chanced using a cracked tank and it came back to bite me in the ass.
