Well...it wasn't an answer to the question,but it is a similar fish and much cooler imo then either, and probably easier to care for.

Easier to care for? You can house a senegalus bichir in a 55 gallon. Bowfin get to 28 inches to I wouldn't put them in anything less than a 100.
