Hello everyone
I wanted to know if you would sell a fish that you kept with you for awhile whom you really enjoyed keeping,
to someone with no experience and proper care.
Keep in mind your selling this fish online or whatever..
An offer recently came up for my red aro but he doesnt have a proper sized tank..so I refused..

Just wanted to know what you guys will do, nothing serious guys

In general, yes. The truth of the matter is anyone can tell you anything, especially because you mean nothing to them. I could tel you i have a 240gallon and really only have a 55, i could say i have 10years exp. And really only have 1. If i have decided to sell i will sell to anyone that seems genuine, most people dont set out to harm or make other things miserable.

I'm with krichardson on that one. I can count on one hand the number of fish I have sold in the past 5 years. Only reason I ever have sold one is because it was a total A%$ that wouldn't work in any tank. Normally when I get a fish I have him for his life.

To your question though.....I guess I would if I needed the money or just wanted to get rid of the fish for whatever reason. I'd try friends/club members first, but if that didn't work then it'd be off to whoever wanted it I guess.

Yep,I rarely put my fish up for sale and when I do I tend to regret it and want them back.I don't generally place ads for them and I don't usually discuss my fish to non fishkeepers so just anyone wouldn't be aware that I am selling anything.

No I’ve had 5 hits on the Craig’s list post about my black Nasties and all of them want to put them in aquariums 30 gallons or less. Why wouldn’t you at least look into something before inquiring about it

Hello; many years ago I would set up tanks in my science and biology classrooms. I would set up breeding tanks of zebra dainoes and sometimes albino kribensis.
Sometimes students would seem to take an interest so I would give away some of the fry when hey grew out enough. One day I found several kribensis fry in the water fountain near my room. Seems the students just dumped them as the left the room. I stopped giving out fish.

Not your situation I know but a real example.

It would depend on the situation. A fish that I painstakingly grew out for years probably not, but a lfs pick up that was not working out would either go back to the store or to anyone who wanted it. I imagine people who end up with large batches of fry from larger species don't have the luxury of vetting anyone who gets them. So they can either be feeders or likely end up in the hands of someone incapable of taking care of them.

This is a tough subject. An example i have; roughly a year ago i sold a good friend of mine a 55 gallon with a canister filter. Along with that i gave him a half dozen labiatus fry. He told me he wanted to keep the biggest one eventually and have a solo wet pet. Recently i stopped by his house and what i saw just shocked me! He not only kept all 6 red devils, but there are 3 oscars, a green terror, flowerhorn, and random other large fish all in the 55, as you can imagine it insanely filthy. And i even tried to take some fish from him to help him out. He wanted to keep every last one. The only fish i managed to take home with me was the one in my avatar that was supposed to be put in his mbuna tank, that turns out didnt exist. Bothered me for days after :-/

Edit: i want to add to this that the guy i am talking about is a good dude. Like when i was in a rut years ago, signed his car over to me so i had one for my family. Just to show an example of his character. Its just that people like us: true fish keepers are a rare breed. We care about the fish we keep and how their lives are. To the majority of people out there, to have an aquarium is just a thing of elegance or wow factor. No different then if we had a nice patio set or something like that. Sad but true.
