I'd have a really long tank, maybe 2 1/2 feet wide and 14 foot long. I would have a light sand bottom and a bit of low horizontal driftwood with java fern and java moss tied to it.
With some nice round fist-size and bowling ball sized round stones. Also i would have lily pads or frog sprite or whatever it is called for shade here and there I would have a large school or three of assorted cory cats and a royal pleco. But that's it for fish, aside from the gourami.
I'd use LED lighting, the expensive kind they use for saltwater tanks hung on wire above the tank affixed to a stainless steel lighting bracket, so it would look like the tank was lit by the sun. The stand might be stainless steel as well, with a massive external sump, the ones designed for outdoor koi ponds.
And I would feed it mellon and grapes, and tell it jokes and sing it songs about birds. I'd sit watching in on a wooden stool, but one made with a comfortable leather pillow. I'd have the tank near a large window, not so that the sun shines on the tank, but near it at an angle. This window would face my backyard, where i'd have multiple bird baths, bird houses and feeders, perhaps i'd leave the windows open and bird would fly in and sit on the edge of the tank and sing, but be careful Mr. Bird! Watch out! That Gourami has a taste for singing birds! Ho!
I don't know why i shared this. But i did.
I always stop and linger at the Giant Gouramis when i'm at the zoo.
