Just got my first pleco, ordered him with a couple other fish as an afterthought. My supplier kept telling me I was going to be impressed by him but i thought "Its a pleco, how cool could it possibly be". Ive got snakehead, bichirs, rays, knives, eels and a wolf and always considered plecs to be on a level below.

Was I ever wrong!! Opened the 4ft box and there's my first pleco, a 12" Red eye royal. Totally took my breath away. Hes one of the most impressive fish I've ever laid eyes on and gives my rays a run for their money as best looking fish I own. He looks like a cross between a pinstripe suit, a bulldozer and a cheese grater with red eyes.

I'll get some pics, but the tank he's in is fairly dim lit and hes adjusting in the back out of site.

Ive done homework on this panaque and he has 200lbs of bogwood to munch on and a crisper full of yams!

Nothing like the feeling of opening that box! I'll have in tank pics asap.

Nice pickup!

Bogwood is too hard to eat in quantity. I'd recommend deciduous species like apple or alder. My plecos love alder.

welcome to pleco world. i have a giant royal also and yes they will take your breath away. good luck with him.

Very nice pick up, pleco's are very interesting fish. Especially the Royals. I got a smaller L191 not too long ago. Within the last 3-4 weeks I went from 2 albino bristlenoses to 8 pleco's in total (4 in 2 different tanks). There is just one draw back to them, especially larger ones. They're poop factories.
