Yes that's correct but A.Spixis are the best for that. That's what my brother was told. I have been looking for answers on how to keep their shells together in softer water. From all the answers I was given it seems like its not going to be easy.
I am waiting for my Spixis. For now I'm using some other type of apple snail and have had no luck with the shells. I think it's better to breed your own establish a colony and use them as you need them.

I like using chola wood.

Forget adding the snails. Even if they eat the undigested food portions of the poop, well, they still ADD poop. Apple snails in general are the worst pooping snail machines rivaling goldfish and plecos.

That's not why they are to be used.
They eat the wood dust/shavings and turn it into poop. That way it is easier for your filters to deal with it. Panaques do not digest the wood they rasp. It passes right through them.
So the pooping is good.
