Crushed walnut causes impaction badly.

Little guys can't digest it...at all. So it just chills in their tummy, and builds up. Then they can't pass their food.

Plus it probably smells/taste good, which will encourage them to eat it.

yeah, but I figured that was just for inorganic material. I didn't know they can't digest walnut dust

Well, its more then just dust. Crushed walnut is walnut shells that were smashed. It is little bits of walnut shell, about 3 times the size of sand.
