I think the best way is put the crab into freezer 1st for an hour....it will fall in sleep slowly, and drop it into the boiling water.....! poor crab

screwdriver approach my ass theres no need to stab it just chuck it in the pot that is the way we have always done it, i dont believe it changes the taste of the crab at all, thats just a joke....
kill crabs before cooking them? ive cooked them live and they taste great.. just steam using one can of beer.
I use to work at a fisherys plant and the way they kill crabs is pretty brutal. They grab the Crab and slam on a spike butt side first, shell pops off then they clean out all the internal organs and crap then throw them in a big bin and do it all over again. The experienced workers clean a crab in like 5 seconds so imagine how many they do in a 12hr shift.
