Wow that's crazy. Sorry to hear. Usually large plecos are very hardy. Talk to the manager at big als, they should be able to give you store credit. I think they guarantee for 7 days. If it was a bit more that shouldn't matter

BAs guarantee is 50% for 7 days. As disappointing as this loss is I knew it was a gamble. A few years ago I lost a 6" albino Adonis and 4" L25, 7 pointer. That left me so gutted I didn't get back to plecos till this year.
Going to hunt for a larger L191 dull eye royal to hold me over till I can afford a gold line again. Pictured is my last goldline which looked identical to this failed purchase when I bought him and grew into a real stunner. Unfortunately a back injury leading to 8 months of no income forced me to sell my collection of panaques.
The good news is Jay, aka Jackson (great guy) bought him and he's be in a good home ever since.
Damn, sometimes I hate being right. This is one of those times. When you said he was rasping away and wasn't worried about finding shelter and just out in the open I've seen this countless times and when I buy multiples it seems the ones that exhibit this behavior are the sickest and generally the first to go. Unfortunately, in my decades of trying to get my unicorn (royal) I know all to well the feelings you're feeling. I don't know if there was a money back guarantee but for your sake I hope you at least get back some or all of your money from the seller. It still sucks but if you're made whole financially it helps you to be able to try it again. I don't know what it is about royals but it's SO damn difficult to find them in LFS and when you do they generally are already too far gone. RIP little fella.

Jer, thanks for the kind thoughts, I received a 50% credit today, unfortunately they have no large royals and the season here is over till September. I'll be checking all locals sales and kijiji till then for a large L191.
