In spite of having encountered many, I have yet to actually interact with a datnoid. They are retarded little hiders. Convict anyday.

I mean a 5inch convict could beat the **** out of a dat.
Get a 10 gallon and they make perfect feeders.
They have more personality
They mark territory and will fight to the death for that spot.
They grow long fins when fully mature and look awesome.
They are compatible with other aggressive fish.
What does a dat do?
Other than ego boost because other members like them ....?
convicts are badass fish reguardless of what anyone thinks. The amazing things you can do with a convict... Feed them to your fish, breed them for their babies to feed your fish, let them kick ass, or just enjoy them ...

Dats= my eel feeders, but i cant feed dats to my eel because thats just unpracticle.... feeding my eel convicts is usefull, thus making convicts a more usefull fish than a dat.
It comes down to what you like. If you like spending money on a fish only for status then whatever. If you truely like dats, whatever. If you just like the cash that comes from rasining dats whatever.
BUT
It is fact that a convict is a more usefull fish than a dat. period.

Convicts aren't display fish, they're feeders. Not even worth comparing to datnoids...
"usefullness" is irrelavent, if that was the case my favorite fish would be bristlenose plecos

never kept datnoids, But i do have a convict i found on the floor one day when i woke up.
i dont know how long it was in there, i was about to throw it in the trash,then a sudden twitch , made me realized, it could still be alive.... so, i put it in a cup with water in it. ANd a miracle happened, the convict rose from the dead !!!!
as of today, i keep my convict with pride ! seems like if it was lucky to survive, it might as well be my "lucky fish"

Both are great fish just depends on what you like. Convicts are easy to breed nasty little buggers with a whole lot of personality. Dat's on the other hand are great display fish. Beautiful colors a basically non-aggressive yet predatory fish. I personally prefer Dat's as they're not aggressive and I like not worrying about my fish killing each other. Did the whole aggressive fish tanks and they just cost too much to maintain. Kept losing fish to aggression. I prefer large predators with no aggressive tendencies this way I don't have to worry unless there's a big size difference between tankmates, and if I'm feeling a little testosterone surge I throw in a feeder. LOL!! Just my opinion though.
