sweet pic for sure! surprisingly, gars arent too hard to handle if you can get a hold of them properly...they can't really turn their heads to bite you as some fishes could. the gar in the pic is probably a tropical or alligator gar; judging from the images i have seen of large tropicals, that is what i would lean towards, but alligator is not out of the question. a Cuban gar would look more bronze/gold at that size.

Now that Sol mentions it, I think I see the remenants of the tropical's characteristic pitchfork... very faded, but I think I can see it.
 
I'm still groaning about the cuban SEAGAR.
