no, tropical country like ours usually do not need heater...
after all gar is really strong fish, when i put him in oscar tank i dont even use filter in order for the blood worm not to get sucked...
my water temp is 28C. my PH is 6

man thats dangerous... maybe u should simply turn off ur filter if u dont want it to suck the worms.... the waste of those fishes are really huge thus requiring a efficient filter.
