Have you checked the state rules and regs??? In Idaho and Washington it is illegal to remove crayfish from the water source they live in. You can catch them, and use them for bait, but they can't even be moved to another body of water nearby. They have to stay where they are from, to take them home is illegal, and a stiff fine ($50 per crayfish I believe).

Not true. At least in WA. People trap them here all the time. I even called F&W about it and they said it's fine.
 
Wow, 50$ per cray would suck... Almost 5k in fines for crayfish!? lol.
