Who wants to wrestle with a ray and risk getting stung just to save a dime a dozen catfish?

That's what dowels (et al) are for. But whatever floats your boat.

PS - I'll take a dozen for a dime, please. Where do I send the dime? I am sorry you think (any) fish is basically worthless and not worth saving. I would definitely try to save it - even if it was a pet feeder.
Just because a fish is cheap doesn't mean it's life is worth less.

Because evidentially not doing so exercise a lack of common sense
Lol,evidentially?

Using a dowel to free the rtc sounds dangerous to both fish...two fish that probably shouldnt have been housed together in the first place...good for you if you can house a dozen rtc.

Please have all information before snide, smartass comments. The RTC was dead when I woke up and saw it. Feel free to reach in the tank and risk a stinging to save a carcass. Do I want the fish eaten...no...but if I wake up and it's already dead I am not going to waste the nutrients or attempt to hurt they ray. It was an interesting picture and I wanted to share it. But please continue to spout your high moral ground without all information. You know what they say "paraphrased" let he who never had bad luck in the hobby talk bad about everyone else. I guess your fish should genuflect every day that they have the mother theresa of fishkeepers. I work damn hard to keep my fish happy and healthy and this happens.

Sorry the thread seems to have taken a turn here, OP. Regardless, unexpected (and I admit, amusing) pic. It would make an interesting avatar in my opinion. Shame about the rtc, but my fish have done worse to each other despite my best efforts, so I can't judge.

And while the comments were a bit out of line, I'm going to admit I'm laughing pretty hard at the exchange between you guys (Krich and Jay). Been a while since I heard the phrase "pound sand", but I assure you both it will work it's way back into my regular conversation from this point on. I also now know where to tell people to store their rock collections, so thanks for that Krich.

I appreciate your support. I have never put any fish together for one to be eaten (feeders excluded). But I know it happens. The fish's head is twice as big as the ray's mouth hence the fact he was eaten tail first. It presented an interesting picture i'd never seen before and wanted to share.

Even though 95% of the posters are great the other 5% make it difficult to want to be actively involved in a hobby I love
