I guess im old fashioned.. drilling the tanks leave no room for error.. power goes out i dont hafta go check everything to make sure i wont be swimming in a little bit. i have had trouble having them start back up after a low water level from a power outage

PVC overflows blow unless you're running multiple ones at once - they lose their full flow all the time.

but if ure running a big tank why run only one? at 1 there ok , at 2 there awesome , planning to build a few today as im finally setting up my 135.

that measuremeant is probably meant for a 2'' bulkhead.. not DIY overflow.. for the trouble its not worth it imo.. for the price it takes you to build them and the risk in using them, that 2" hole and bulkhead wont be that much more $..

as long as its big enough? if that measurement is for a 2inch bulkhead, i would use two, 2 inch bulkheads just to be sure.. with one hole, if it ever gets clogged or the flow slows down it may stop handling the pump.. and that spells disaster..

bump still buying the overflow , the hole that is drilled is only 1". plus im using a 60g sump so it wont flood if anything goes wrong

the only way to tell that is to have it hooked up and to unplug your power..
