you can not sex piranha with visiual look....
As of now, it's a theory. It's the best chance of getting m/f there is, better than picking out of the blue. If you want more info, pm the op.

i believe sticky was involved in a convo that took place a while back.. it shouldnt be any suprise to him that i am looking for one still.. i have the space and the $ now so i am investigating it further.. and i assure you that there is two different color phases of this fish.. noone here has invested more time into research on this particular piranha then me..

and yes it is a theory.. like rob stated its better then picking out of the blue.. this is not a wide spread fish it is confined to a small area in the wild. the pic in my avatar is my supposed male.. i am thinking that the more silver ones are females.. i know most of you "piranha addicts" here will laugh at me for these statements but i can assure you that i am well educated myself, and am attempting to do something that has never been done before in captivity.. so if you know of Any brandtii's for sale please get me a pic and ill see if i can pick it up, as of right now its the more i have the merrier..

edit: thanks again rob for all your help..

Have you dicussed such with importers? they would certainly come into contact with many more specimens than any of us ever would.

Have heard that Piraya color is based on food only - though I am not smart enough or knowledgable to know. Just relaying what I have been told - food for thought.

Thanks for the bump rob..

And i know "Most" piranha are not sexually dimorphic but, i find it hard to believe that a silver fish can go gold.. and i mean extremely gold..(avatar) just by good food. krill has alot to do with my fishes color but there is an extreme difference between the colors of the silver and gold varient.. i have had my brandtii above.. white gravel, black gravel, natural sand, peat fiber, and with plants and his color does not change.. eating strictly live in the beggining he was still GOLD.. now his shade is just much brighter.. like i said this is just a theory.. dont flame me for it..

yea as far as i know they are all have gold, if it is silver it is probably being mistaken as a pygopristis denticulata. its a fairly common mistake in the hobby.

If you have been around the prianha forum, you would see that i am more then versed in piranha basics as well as others.. i would take the statement above as an insult if i wasnt way passed exhausted.. like i said i ASSURE you that there is the fish am looking for and that i am mistaking it for the pygopristis..
