Wtf happened here?

Looks like a fungal or bacterial infection.

I thought maybe it got damaged when some of the tank decorations were moved around. How would I diagnose fungal vs bacterial. There is a lot of fish in this tank and this is the only one I see like this.

Moving things around shouldn't have caused that.A sure sign of a fungal infection would be cotton or fuzz looking growth on the infected area. How are your ammonia levels?

not look like ammonia burn but sure worth asking.

if not ammonia burn, again kanaplex treats both bacteria and fungal.

I'd go with that.

Thanks for the help. She's had a couple ammonia spikes in that tank and I think it's because one of the kids thought it would be helpful to feed the fish when we weren't looking. A lot... Just did a thorough vacuum of the sand a a 50% water change over the weekend. Don't know how long this guy has looked like this since they hide all the time. I'll check the local shop for the meds you recommended in the morning.

Yep that's the thing with megalodoras, they hide most of the time and you don't know if there is an issue with them that needs to be addressed unless you chase them out.I suspect the problem was water related, after you have medicated the fish keep up your partial changes.
