Hmmm...Do you have pics of the ulcer, SP? If it looks angry-looking albeit with red at the center seemingly bleeding, I'd consider a swab on that. Hydrogen peroxide is one that you can use but use only ONCE as it is harsh and removes the healing tissues for every swab. Not advisable to do more than once. The other option which is gentler is iodine solution or betadine. Do you have access to Biobandage, neosporin or polysporin?

Sadly, ich can indeed follow up a secondary bacterial infection. Recent researches confirmed some bacteria particularly Flavobacterium columnare which causes columnaris can adhere on the protozoans. There are developments at the moment for meds that could render ich less infective to bacterial problems by destroying the endosymbiotic bacteria, strains that seem to affect only invertebrates at the moment as there seems no record such strains ever infected the fish.
