I have been reading alot about drop eye affecting the aro's and i don't really know what you guys are talking about. I can tell that it's when the eyes seem 2 slop down the head or are always looking downward an they can't help it. So what causes drop eye?????? how can i prevent it??????? and Is there any way to treat it once they get it??????????

!. Dunno what cuases it
2. Can't prevent it
3. Cant get rid of it

First picture: No DE

Second picture: DE

drop eye is the effect of fat build up behind the eye, for the means that the fat pushes the eye/eyes to look down.
Most captive bred Arows get DE. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still learning.

Is not proven...there are many theories of how DE is formed...none of which have been proven yet...I have yet to see an asian aro get DE and all asian aros are bred in captivity, so thus the captivity theory may not be correct either.

Cause:alot of fat from feeders, banging there head alot, genetics
Prevent:dont let it jump and hit its head dont feed it fat stuff, sumtimes cant b/c of genetics
Treatment:im not sure iv heard if you put it in a big pond it will cure by itself if you feed it normally(not really sure)

Thanks for the correction. Is there any other theories that you know of?
Asian arows are also raised in huge ponds. And cared by people that's been breeding them for ages.

Quite a few, one day, someone needs to test this out lol
1. The fat build up theory
2. Head trauma theory which is constant hitting of the head on stuff. Some have literally seen there aro develop DE in a matter of hours after a serious hit to the head.
3. Aro becoming lazy theory
4. Light glare theory which is the light reflects off the bottom of the tank and the aro looks down (some say the remedy is to put a ping pong ball in the water so they look up, but its been tried and doesnt work)
5. Pure genetics theory
6. Blackwater theory which says becuase the water most people use to keep aros in is clear, therefore, more light enters the aros eye than they are used to and that causes DE.

I dont think that pingpong makes any difference.. it all comes down to space/diet/ and water quality.

Well so far i have a 10'' arow with no DE in both eyes.

I hope it stays that way.:D

x2, ping pong ball is useless, doesn't do anything. Like you said, it all comes down to space, diet, and water.
