WTF is this business

Genetically modified convicts/angelfish? I don't know how they do these, maybe someone with more knowledge can spread some light on the subject. I understand the Glofish because the zebra danio's entire genome is mapped (which is what makes it a great candidate for lab science studies), so figuring out where to cut on the DNA strand and insert new fluorescent DNA is feasible. Maybe they mapped the genome for the convicts and angelfish too?

I don't know what the purpose of these would be though. Maybe fluorescent convicts will make them easier to prey upon if irresponsibly released into the wild as an invasive species.

Fluorescence is fun!

There's a variety of methods that could have been employed here. If they know where to insert the gene in the zebrafish, they could have searched for a homologous region in the convict/angelfish genome and insert it there. Alternatively, they might have sequenced their genomes, though ncbi doesn't have anything on that. Thirdly, it could have been just a random insert by using a transposable-element or something of the sorts.

Who knows. :P

I'm calling BS! They look like albinos injected with dye, not hybrids.
