Nice call jprp. i think your right, he was just caught in a net and he got stuck...oops he usually is darker. but i just noticed he has some iridescence on his body didnt ever notice this untill i looked at planetcatfish.. kinda neat.

BTW he is only half blind and still chases down his prey!
 
For a life in captivity, i wouldnt have thought that the fish will have many problems with the single eye.
By the way, over here they are very uncommon fish.
 
spotted catfish, hemisorubim platyrhynchos. no doubt whatsoever. head shape is a dead giveaway.
