kennesaw, ga
so tonight i came home from dinner and was turning off my tanks lights when i noticed in my 125g what appeared to be a vertebrae and part of a caudal fin WTF!! so i start doing a head count; 2 severums, check, 1 psittacus, check 4 festivus, check, 4 daemon, NO CHECK!! its suppose to be 5 daemon, so im searching and searching for the 5th and came up empty. i have no idea what happened. its weird because i had family over and was showing them my tanks and all 5 were there earlier now all that's left was the spine and part of the caudal fin. i have no idea who killed it, if it died then was eaten or what?? and within 6hours? im guessing it could have been killed by my psittacus since it would be the most aggressive but she usually leaves the geos alone. im sure it was my plecos that picked it clean but its very upsetting plus im going out of town next week and don't want to come home to a tank with 1 fish. the daemon had to have been about 4", i fed them about 2 days ago and usually feed every 3 days :irked::irked::irked:

Dude that sucks!

That sucks! Why do you only feed every 3 days?

Just get an automatic feeder to feed them a small amount everyday while you are away, then try feeding them every other day to see if they relax, fat and happy fish are more docile :)

Ouch, sorry to hear Sean.

What plecos and how many? I'd be doubtful that a psittacus would choose a single daemon from a pack of five and pick it off, but then it's interesting to have Cichlids just drop dead without prior warning. No place for daemon to get stuck or lodged? I've heard of Plecos finding Cichlids that have gotten stuck and making a meal out of them.

That sucks Sean. I agree with Japes. I doubt the psittacus did it. Especially if none of the others are getting picked on. Probably just dead for some unknown reason and the pleco's feasted on it quickly. They can turn a fish into nothing very fast. Royal pleoc's can really put a hurting on a dead fish if you still have yours.

That is beat, I had that happen to an SAE it was fine or appeared to be in the morning and when I came home from work it was dead and my Royal Pelco was rasping away at it. Then I was worried that whatever it died from would be transfered to the pleco but so far so good this was 3weeks ago. Anyway, sorry about your loss, Geos are some nice looking fish.
