I thought that the title of the thread might grab your attention!!! Anyway, here's my question. Do suppliers regularly sell Senegals and label them Palmas? There's a handful of folks right now on one of the more prominant fish buying websites (I don't want to post the name, because it is the individual poster's original responsibility, not the host site's, and I don't want to badmouth the host), selling what appear to be absolutly normal Sens, but they are labled Palmas; and they are selling for almost 3 times what a Senegal is worth paying for??? WTF? I could be totally wrong, but confusing Palmas Polli w/ Senegalus is pretty hard to do, right? They don't look that alike, or am I misinformed?

Also, completely unrelated, where can I find a 3" Retropinnis, and how much is too much for one?

Many Thanks,
Ben.

Here's one of the pics that had me confused. This looks just like my recently aquired Sen. What distinguishing characteristics make this a Palmas, and not a Sen, or is this guys just selling a mislabeled fish?

yeah looks like albino sen or something to me, palmas would have at least faint markings on back wouldnt it?

Here's another. If the seller of any of these fish is on here, I am not trying to poke fun or ridicule. I am simply fascinated by Polypterus species, and am trying to find out as much as I can about them. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, or pick any fights, I am simply curious about the defining characteristics of ALL of the Polys, and am trying to weed out any confusion that I may have.

Also in regards to my Retropinnis inquiry, I should have said 3-5 inch (10-15cm.) I'm not set on something exactly 3 inches, but that is a ballpark for how big my Senegal is, and I'd like to see them grow up together.

those r all reg sens all bichirs r commenly mislabled read the stickies tells more about it

I kind of thought so. It's a bit of a bummer, because, Senegals are only running $5-$7 at my LFS, but these are at Palmas prices... I didn't figure that they were albino, but did definately think that they were just regular Senegals. Not that there's anything wrong with Sens, in fact they might still be my favotite species to date. I just don't want to end up spending Palmas price money for something that I can regularly find at my LFS. Hence my inquiry about the Retropinnis. Many thanks to all who have looked and chimed in. Again, I greatly appreciate all of the knowledge.

POLYs ROCK!!!

I guess that's "Kinda" like admitting you don't know what you're selling. This one looks MORE like a Senegalus than any of them though... Oh well... I will hold out for my 3-5" Retropinnis I think. Thanks again to all who read through this.
