WTF????

I have a 120gal "all male" peacock / Hap / Mbuna show tank.

Or so I thought.

I have a +- 5" Venustus which I would have sworn was male, until a few minutes ago when I saw "it" carrying a mouth full of eggs.

When I bought it I purposely chose the dominant fish in the tank so I could get a male.

Now.................whoooos your daddy?

There is no other Venustus in the tank and the only other haps are an Ahli and a Milomo. The milomo has been chasing the Venustus for a few weeks. Did he finally score?

I would not even consider raising these runts but ide love to know how it happened.

Here is a pic of my "male" its a crap pic but the best I could do with my cell. Ill post a better pic in the morning......I think this fish will have a few guessing what sex it actually is.

lol, you're not alone. My electric yellow "male" was recently caught holding too. I felt odd when I stripped the fry lol. "He" is back in the tank and the fry are about to be moved out of the grow out tank.

By the way, nice looking fish!

Thanks...........he / she really is a gorgeous fish...And eats like a pig.

It even snatches earthworms out of my hands while I am feeding my fire eel and look away for just a second. She is going to cost a fortune to feed if she ever gets to around 10"

Good luck with your he / she dilemma too. You shouldnt feel bad though, I dont think anyone could reliably sex a yellow lab that is not clutching eggs.

Yeah. I'd say whoever the dominant fish was would be the pop, but you never know. I've seen all sorts of subdom males "slip under the radar."

This fish gets more confusing everyday. I just fed the tank and she is eating. When she grabbed some food a few wrigglers fell out of her mounth and got chowed by the other fish.

Since when do clutching females eat.........especially with fry that small in their mouth?
