WTF????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
she's definetely a hybrid, i can tell you that... which would explain the blue

1) same yellow color as a female venustus, and same fins
2) the body shape is completely wrong, especially the head, the mouth is just too low! a venustus has a terminal mouth, this one has one near the bottom, like a peacock
3) the splotches are not only too small, they're also shaped wrong.

overall, she's a really pretty fish, (still baffled by the blue) especially for a female!

btw, i have heard of female fish mimicking males when they are the dominant fish or are holding young (blue female kennyi will turn yellow like the males while incubating). as far as the feeding while incubating, she's probably just not used to incubating, so she doesnt know that she shouldnt be eating... lol

why not raise a few fry just to see what they look like? good luck! :D

Interesting thought. That would explain a lot of the behaviour and the colours.

She even behaved like a male before she started clutching, She would dig pits in the gravel and protect that teritory. The main advanage is that she has the colours of a male without the major aggression that can sometimes come from a male venustus.

I doubt any fry will even last a few days with her. She keeps trying to re-shape the pit she had dug in the gravel and lands up having to sift out the fry from the gravel and they are getting scattered all over the tank with the powerful filtration that I have. You can see its her first time raising fry.

There is also no way I could catch her in this tank. Im sure they will breed again, maybe one day ill raise a few and see how they look but they are food after that.
